In Torah Or -Mishpotim- the Alter Rebbe quotes the Biblical verse “ועבדתם את ה׳ אלוקיכם” which means “you shall serve Hashem your G-d”. The Alter Rebbe asks: Does G-d need our work? Does He lack anything? The Alter Rebbe explains that our “work” is not to give G-d something which He is missing or needs.
