Journeys Circles & Success
People enjoy traveling. Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world. From hotels to airlines, from restaurants to photography, vacation travel is an opportunity of rejuvenating and relaxing.
In Lekutei Torah -Masei- the Alter Rebbe explains the importance of the Jewish people traveling to 42 locations as they left Egypt. The Alter Rebbe asks: why does the Torah use the plural of travel when it describes their exedus of Egypt? Leaving Egypts is only one journey, why the word מסעי - Ma’sei which means travels in the plural?
The Alter Rebbe explains:
The Exodus of Egypt is more then just physical geography. The exedus of Egypt is our journey from a slave culture, a slave mentality, to a refined elevated state of inner refinement and true inner freedom. To remove the shackles of bondage, in our personality and in our character. To free ourselves from all bad behaviors and from all unhealthy character traits.
There are 7 basic emotions. Each emotion contains within it a part of the other 6 emotions. When you multiply all of the 7 emotions plus all the parts of the other 6 emotions it equals 42. Therefore the Jewish people traveled exactly 42 journeys. In order to perfect and refine every aspect of their emotions and character.
This is why the Torah uses the plural of journeys when describing the Exodus of Egypt. Because it takes 42 journeys to set oneself free from all negativity.
This gives us motivation and inspiration:
Don’t feel down if good things require much effort. It is a journey of many stops. Every part of your journey is a beautiful opportunity to refine and beautify another aspect of life. Don’t be discouraged by the many stops and journeys of life. It’s all for the good. It’s helping you reach your dream of true freedom and celebration!
3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:
1) Our sages teach us thst words which come from the heart enter the heart. But it’s not sufficient to only talk from the hearts, it must also be heartwarming words. Especially when educating the young generation, we must remember that the tone of voice makes a difference. And the content of one’s message must be heartwarming, sincere and uplifting.
2) Sticks are hard and strong. Branches are soft and pliable. A person must be both. There are times in life when we must be soft and willing to compromise, and there are times in life when we must stand up with courage and pride.
3) Each drop of water reflects its entire environment. A drop of water is a round circle. The circle represents the all encompassing truth of life. The Oneness of the One Creator. In everything we do we must be encircled with the truth, with good values and with proper priorities. Focus on being One. United as One with our One Father in Heaven and you will be blessed with a happy life.
