Chabad Inspiration
Challenges Triumph & Olives
Hi
Wishing you Gut Shabbos
Candle lighting Friday
Febuary 15 Metro NY 5:12pm
The Torah portion of Tzavah begins with G-d instructing Moshe how to prepare the olive oil to be used for the daily Menorah lighting by his brother Aharon in the sanctuary
The opening verse says:
“And you shall command the children of Israel, and they shall take to you pure olive oil, crushed for lighting, to kindle the lamps continually”
The question is asked:
Why the need of a command to crush the olives “crushed for lighting”, isn’t it self understood that one must crush the olive to extract oil ?
Chabad philosophy explains:
We all need inspiration. We all want to be happy. Yet life has challenges. It’s not easy to always be in a good mood. To always see the bright and positive in life. Sometimes we just feel crushed
The Torah is telling us precious life advice. If you feel crushed then look for the oil !
From every painful situation one can grow and learn how to light up ones life. To be a Menorah which illuminates. A Jew is a walking Menorah
Instead of focusing on the crushing, we transform the pain into energy. Everything in life requires energy. Even the economy runs on energy. When we extract our inner oil, our talents and potential, we actually become richer and wealthier as a result of the “drilling” and “crushing”
The verse continues: “To kindle the lamps continually”
The famous French medieval sage Rashi (1040-1105) explains, the commandment is to light the Menorah in a way that the flame rises on its own. Continually
The Rebbe expounds :
When we light our inner flame, our holy soul within each of us, when we help our fellow light up their inner flame, we are to ensure that the flame shines brightly on its own. Continually
To unleash our inner unlimited power. So in reality the Torah is giving us expert advice on how to maximize the gift of life
Uncover your rich oil wells ! Use the crushing to unleash energy !
Smile. Let’s be smart buisness people. What seemed painful may actually sucssefuly serve as a springboard to greater light, energy and oil wells
Life has the physical and the spiritual. The mundane and the holy. Yes. We pray for physical health and wealth. But as Jews we also know that wealth is eternal when we plant in G-d’s garden of life, our world, beautiful plantings of acts of goodness and kindness. Of Torah and Mitzvot
This will hasten the true eternal happy days of unlimited “oil” with Moshiach
May Hashem bless Am Yisroel with revealed good, celebration and happiness. And in case G-d forbid we feel sometimes “crushed” then let’s make a fortune of wealth while we are at it and extract the rich oil
