Cheesecake Wealth & Sinai

Hi

Wishing you Gut Shabbos Gut Yom Tov

Happy Birthday Ten Commandments!

This Sunday the first day of the holiday of Shavuot we celebrate 3331 years since the Jewish year 2448. Together we stood at Mount Sinai.  You and every Jew.  The united Jewish family. Together we all witnessed our father in heaven descend unto Mount Sinai as Moses received the Ten Commandments.  No other faith or religion in the world has this factual reality. They all tell a story of a private revelation. Whereas Jews have millions of eye witnesses.

In Synagogues around the world the Ten Commandments are read from the Torah on this beautiful holiday of Shavuot. Once again the greatest show on earth is coming to you.  Our father and creator is showing up in person to give you personally his most precious possession. True eternal wealth and riches. We traditionally eat dairy. Cheesecake, Cheese Blintzes etc. to celebrate.

The Rebbe requests that every Jew should attend and hear the reading of the Ten Commandments. To bring even babies and children. Men and women, young and old. To be there for this special Torah reading. A most powerful inspiration. G-d and you live. For Chabad locations worldwide please see the special holiday website at chabad.org

3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:

1)  When Moses ascended to Mount Sinai for the historic receiving of the Torah, the angles of heaven protested and argued “ Give the Torah to us angles of heaven”. Especially since angles do not sin. Moses successfully won the argument with his rebuttal: Did you descend to Egypt in slavery to Pharaoh? Do you have a father and mother to honor? Do you have temptations in your heart? Do you have an evil inclination? Then the Torah was given to the Jew on earth. Perhaps we make mistakes. But the pleasure you give our Heavenly Father every time you do as he asks, and with your free choice you choose to do a Mitzvah, this is more precious then angles in heaven. This transforms our world into a Divine garden. A world of peace and harmony. A world of Moshiach.

2) The Torah is a inheritance which belongs to every Jew. As the Baal Shemtov teaches. Every Jewish son and daughter are owners of their Divine Torah inheritance. By Jewish law even a fetus in the mother’s womb inherits. There is no hierarchy in this ownership. You own the Torah equally as the greatest scholar. Torah is G-d embodying and Investing himself in the wisdom of Torah. When we study any part of Torah our physical brain unites intimately with G-d. It’s an eternal unity unlike any other unity in existence. You, including your physical brain become one with G-d. This is a true lasting inspiration. Try to incorporate at least a few minutes of daily Torah study. You will feel inner tranquility and happiness.

3) Thanksgiving. On the holiday of Shavuot we would bring  "Bikurim" the first fruit of the new season in the times of the holy Temple in Jerusalem. A prayer of thanksgiving was recited. Recognizing that our existence is a gift from the creator and we acknowledge that we always depend on the creator. As Rashi, the medieval french commentator (1040-1105) summarizes this fruit ritual “I am not ungrateful”. By showing gratitude for the blessings in life we enjoy which are given to us by our father in heaven , we receive even more blessings. We offer G-d the “first fruit” in every aspect of life. We begin our day upon opening our eyes in the morning with the daily prayer of Modeh Ani. Thanksgiving for life. For the soul which G-d returns to us after a night of sleep. Celebrate life with gratitude to the creator and it will bring you genuine happiness.

Wishing you: May you receive the Torah with inner joy and internalize it
