Leadership Courage & Success

King David was still a young shepherd of sheep. Inspired by his compassion, he divided the sheep into three groups. First he sent the  babies to graze and eat the soft tall grass. Then the old sheep went out to eat the middle grass. Then the young strong sheep went out to eat the hard roots.

The Midrash teaches that upon seeing this  G-d said: “ Let the one who knows how to care for his sheep, each according to his strength, come and shepherd my sheep, the Jewish people”. As we read in Psalms 78 “And He chose David His servant, and took him from the sheep corrals. From following the nursing ewes, He brought Him to shepherd His nation Jacob, Israel His inheritance. And he tended them with the integrity of his heart, and led them with the skill of his hands”.

You are endowed with leadership qualities. You can adjust yourself according to the needs of those who need your help. This is royalty and leadership. To lovingly care for the individual. Not just for the masses. Moses our leader was concerned for the individual Jew. Chabad Tanya teaches that you have a part of Moses in you. Discover the leader you were born to be.

This week Monday and Tuesday, 12-13 Tammuz, we will celebrate 92 years of the liberation of the previous Rebbe Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn (1880-1950) from Soviet jail and exile in 1927.  Single handedly  the previous Rebbe defied the Soviet regime, created a vast secret network and kept the flame of Yiddishkeit shining brightly. Let us celebrate by taking action. By doing an act of Jewish leadership. Leaving no child behind.  Proudly strengthening Jewish Torah life and Jewish continuity. Am Yisroel Chai.

3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:

1) In 1927 the previous Rebbe Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn  was arrested by the Communist Soviets for strengthening Jewish life. During an interrogation he was threatened with a pistole. The previous Rebbe responded “This toy scares those people who have only one world but two gods. I have one G-d and two worlds. This toy doesn’t scare me”.
When you live with conviction and pride of your Jewish heritage there is nothing that can stop you. You are strong and victorious.

2) At the Petersburg train station in 1927, under the watchful eyes of the ruthless antisemitic Communists before leaving to his exile city Kostrama, the previous Rebbe fearlessly proclaimed: Only our bodies were sent into exile. Our souls never went into exile. We are free to choose to live as a Jew. No force in the world can stop us. Now, in today’s modern free  world we will find happiness by harmonizing body and soul. Not by being fooled and lured by shallow fleeing temptations which leave us feeling empty and aimless. Living jewishly equals a life of lasting joy, inner peace and happiness.

3) The Soviet Communists hated anyone who was proud to be a Jew. The liberation of the previous Rebbe is a celebration for all who call themselves a Jew. The world respects you as a Jew when you are proud of your Jewishness. Jewish pride is the foundation upon which we have the strength and courage to overcome all challenges. Especially to successfully inspire the young generation to proudly carry the banner of the golden chain of 3300 years of Jewish life and continuity. Take action. Help the light of Jewish heritage shine brightly. You are needed today more then ever.
