Peace Empathy and Rejuvenation
Peace. The key to life. Happiness is when there is unity and peace. There is no happiness when there is disunity. Rosh Chodesh Av - Friday August 2- is the Yortseit of Aharon the Kohen Godol, brother of Moses. Aharon is the role model of peace.
In Ethics of Our Fathers we read: “Hillel would say: Be of the disciples of Aaron—a lover of peace, a pursuer of peace, one who loves the creatures and draws them close to Torah“.
The Talmud records that when two people had a quarrel, two friends or a husband and wife, Aaron would go one of them and say that the other is heartbroken and tearing their clothing. They are embarrassed of the wrongdoing they did to you. Then Aaron would go to the other person and repeat the same words. When the two would see each other they would embrace and make peace.
Some sacrifice their happiness in order to win. The smart make peace so they win happiness.
Peace is the vessel for Divine blessings. Torah was given to make peace in the world. Unconditional love is the remedy to merit the rebuilding of the Temple with Moshiach. A world of universal peace and harmony.
3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:
1) Israel. The Holy Land. G-d’s eyes are always upon her. Wherever you are you have the power to bring Israel to your part of the world. When you live your life with Torah and good deeds you bring Israel to your part of the globe. In Yiddish the Chassidic saying is “Mach Doh Eretz Yisroel” Make Israel Here. The world is in your hands.
2) When a healthy parent punishes their child it is rooted in deep love. It is exclusively for the benefit of the child. When heaven causes challenges in life we must know that it is rooted in a hidden love which the creator has for us. Simultaneously we must know that if we see our fellow suffering we are not permitted to justify it with any philosophical faith explanation. We must do everything in our power to ease their pain. As well as to beseech our father in heaven to have mercy and help the person in need. Never become comfortable with someone else’s pain. G-d wants you to behave like siblings who love and help each other. We are all G-d’s children and he is our father. Love and help your fellow. It’s your sibling.
3) Life is about new accomplishments. This is why the first commandment is to establish the new month. The lunar calendar. This highlights that our purpose and goal in life is newness. To make our world a new bright home for the creator. To harmonize heaven and earth. The spiritual and the physical. With Torah and good deeds. The creator is waiting for your personal input and your new achievements. The sign of life and youth is continuous growth and development. You can always be young. Because youth is not measured by age but by spirit.
