Dancing Riches & Renewal
One of the happiest Jewish holidays is Simchat Torah. Even in the dark dangerous times of communist Russia, when Jews were afraid to celebrate their Jewishness publicly, yet on Simchat Torah as we complete the cycle of reading the entire Torah and we begin the new cycle, Jews of all ages and of levels of religious observance came out to the streets to proudly join in the public Simchat Torah dancing.
Even those who seemed all year round to drift away, hiding their Jewishness, made sure to participate in the Simchat Torah dancing celebrations, often with a little cup of Lchayim in hand. The hidden spark of Jewish identity suddenly and passionately burst into the open. Proudly saying in Yiddish "Lchayim Ich Been A Yid" I Am A Jew!
The Jewish people are known as the People of the Book. A smart educated people. Torah is our prize jewel and is full of brilliant teachings and wisdom. Wouldn't it have been more fitting to celebrate Simchat Torah with pearls of Torah wisdom and it's intellectual analysis. Yet Jewish tradition in all Jewish communities around the globe is to joyously dance with closed Torahs.
Chabad philosophy explains the beauty of this custom. By intentionally dancing with a closed Torah we are proudly proclaiming that the Torah belongs to every Jew equally, young and old, man woman and child. Scholar and simpleton alike. It's the birthright of every Jew. No Jew is left behind. We are all the children of one Father. One united Jewish family. Brothers and sisters. One unit. The Jew, Torah and G-d are three Indivisible loves.
"Torah was commanded to us by Moses as an inheritance for the congregation of Jacob”. Torah is called an inheritance. Because by Torah law, even an unborn child in it's mother’s womb inherits the father’s possessions. Because the child is one with the father.
This is your moment. Renewal. Rejuvenation. New beginnings.
Simchat Torah and the Hakafot dancing are a golden opportunity to free ourselves of perhaps being overly focused on materialism. A time to let go of old emotional baggage. Holding the Torah, our tree of life, tasting it's sweetness with a heart filled with boundless love and appreciation. Enjoying a taste of a truly richer quality of life. Affectionately giving the Torah a kiss. Touching and embracing the Divine. Heaven on earth.
The Rebbe's more then 4000 Chabad House centers around the globe warmly invite you and welcome you to join in the Simchat Torah dancing. Celebrate your personal precious link in the eternal golden chain of Jewish heritage and Jewish continuity.
Traditionally even little children and baby's participate. To educate , inculcate and upload the love of Torah and Jewish heritage into their young hearts and minds. Teaching them by example: The Torah and all it's rich inspiring traditions belong to you!
3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:
1) Every moment of the forty eight hours of Shmini Atseret and Simchat Torah is your opportunity to fill buckets of blessings and happiness for you and your loved ones. You achieve this thru your joy and dancing.
2) Your joy and happiness will illicit powerful blessings for you in all that you need and desire. Paradoxically, the more pressing your needs are the more you should rejoice. Your happiness will open new channels and bring you your desired blessings.
3) The first letter of the Torah is the letter Bet of the word Breishit. Genesis. The last letter in the Torah is the letter Lamed of the word Yisrael. These two letters spell the word Lev. Heart. The Torah is given to bring peace and loving unity in the world. Love your fellow with unconditional love. Loving your fellow is the key to loving G-d. Your good deed will hasten universal peace and Moshiach. The world needs you.
