Chanukah Triumph & Bravery
Hi
Wishing you Gut Shabbos
Candle Lighting December 20 - Kislev 22 NY Metro 4:10pm
Chanukah Triumph & Bravery
In the second century BCE, our Holy Land was ruled by the Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks) who tried forcing the Jewish people to accept Greek culture. Against all odds, a small group of faithful Jews led by Judah the Maccabee, defeated them. The Jews drove the Greeks from the Holy Land and rededicated the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
The Jews found only one jar of Kosher olive oil which required the seal of the Kohen Gadol the High Priest. Miraculously the one-day supply of olive oil lasted for eight days until new Kosher olive oil could be prepared in holiness and purity.
To celebrate and publicize these miracles, the Jewish sages instituted the holiday of Chanukah. Including lighting the Menorah for all to see. We celebrate with songs prayers and traditional delicious foods and festive gatherings. With a special focus on children.
The small group of courageous Jews were outnumbered. They seemed doomed. But with Jewish pride, resilience and faith they were determined to save Jews from assimilation and they defeated the powerful Hellenistic forces. This small group of brave heroic Jews was victorious and guaranteed Jewish education and Jewish continuity.
We all have a majestic Menorah in our heart. We all have a Holy jar of oil within us. Oil rises above all else. Chanukah is a time to celebrate our own personal renewal. To triumphantly light up the dark spots in life with the light of our own Divine gift of purity and soul.
Like the Maccabees we too are fearless. United we stand as proud brave Jews as brothers and sisters. Together we are the world's largest family. We focus on the Holy jar of oil and purity within every person. We choose to see the shining light and the good in every person. We banish darkness and hatred and transform enemies into friends and adversaries into partners. Together we are victorious over all who seek to destroy the Jewish family and Jewish heritage.
You are the captain of your ship. You are the army general of your life. You are the one who deserves the credit for proudly and bravely rekindling the flame of your spirit. Lighting your beautiful Menorah in your heart for all to see. You are a precious gift to the world. Because without you G-d's vision and plan for humanity to celebrate a world of peace Divine wisdom and unity is incomplete.
Together our noble deeds of goodness and kindness are successfully transforming the world into a gorgeous garden. Our hearts are filled with hope and prayer knowing that speedily we will be in Jerusalem and light the Golden Menorah with Moshiach and we will thank you for your courageous contribution to our collective global victory.
3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:
1) Darkness is nothing but the absence of light. Focus on the positive potential of good and discover the hidden beauty and light . Discover your beautiful core essence and your good will automatically shine. Education of child and adult is to reveal our Holy soul which is a part of G-d. Then darkness will automatically disappear. You are a precious sparkling diamond. Polish it and your light will shine brightly.
2) A lantern requires oil and a wick to create a flame. In life we must know what to prioritize. What to give up so it will serve as fuel to perpetuate the majestic flame of our soul. Success is to give up pettiness and ego and focus on the goal. It is peace and unity in life which yield the warmth beauty and pleasure of your eternal shining flame.
3) Chanukah also means education. The future is about the children. The Temple Menorah had seven branches but they were all sculpted from the same one chunk of gold. Although we may all seem like different branches we rise and internalize that we are one. We are all the children of our loving Father in Heaven. You are a Menorah and your shining light can transform night into day facilitating the victory of good over evil and freedom over oppression. Light up the real you. You can do it.
Happy Chanukah
