In a 1808 manuscript of The Alter Rebbe the founder of Chabad we find a fascinating explanation on pages 215-219 as to why people who are sick can loose their pleasure and happiness and the ability to smell and taste food.
The Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman explains that the lack of pleasure, happiness and the lack of enjoyable taste of food is because their blood is infected with unclean energy and heat. The cure is to rid the blood from all foreign heat and fire.
With this the Alter Rebbe explains what King Solomon says in Song of Songs 2:5 “I Am Lovesick”. When a person’s soul is “Soul-sick” and lacks love for it’s loving Heavenly Father and creator, the cure is by removing all foreign “fire” of impurity and unholiness.
Normally the soul has pleasure from it’s relationship with G-d. ”Soul-sick” is when the soul is lacking this love, pleasure and taste.
This illness is because the Divine ”Shechina” and the presence of G-d in the world is in a state of Exile. When Moshiach comes this will be eternally and completely healed.
With this the Alter Rebbe says we understand what the prophet Jeremiah says in 17:14,
Heal me, O Lord, then shall I be healed; help me, then I shall be helped, for You are my praise!
Every month has a special power. The new Hebrew month of Iyar is a powerful blessed month of Healing.
The Hebrew letters of the word Iyar are an acronym of “Ani Hashem Rof’echoh“ which means “I Am G-d Your Healer”.
It is a month of physical healing and spiritual healing. May you be blessed with total healing and health. Both physically and spiritually, with happiness and pleasure.
Let us increase in goodness and kindness, doing a Mitzvah, Torah study and celebrating our Jewish heritage and tradition. We will speedily merit to see the Rebbe’s prophetic statement that Moshiach Is On His Way and the true healing of all illness of the world, with the coming of Moshiach Now!
3 Messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:
1) We have two souls. A G-dly soul and an “animalistic soul” which like an animal is passionately focused on it’s physical pleasures. We are empowered to harness this energy with enthusiasm and passion for doing goodness and kindness. Transforming the physical into holiness.
2) A prisoner can be in psychological pain due to the lack of freedom of expression. Our soul is a prisoner in the body. When we pray and study Torah, doing acts of goodness and kindness, fulfilling the commandments, we will have happiness, joy and celebration. A world of Moshiach.
3) Rabbi Akiva said: “Love your fellow as yourself , this is a great principle of the Torah. Like a human body: when the blood circulates around the body without interruptions, then the body is healthy. When we love our fellow unconditionally then the Divide energy flows freely and healthy to the entire Jewish people as we are one entity. This will bring a world of health, happiness and healing with Moshiach Now!
