Chanukah Mirrors & Rejuvenation

Delicious food is an art. The ingredients require precise amounts. If you put in too little, it will not taste good. If you put in too much, your guest will complain. 

Chanukah we light the Menorah to commemorate the miracle of the oil which lasted eight days. In Torah Or - Mikeitz- the Alter Rebbe discusses the paradox of oil. 

There is no fire inside the oil, and if the flame falls into the oil it will be extinguished. But if you use a wick which draws only a limited and minimal amount of oil then the flame shines brightly. Too little or too much doesn’t work. 

The same is true with a Divine commandment. The seemingly “small” deed is a success. We may not see the “fire”, excitement or the logic in the commandment. However, by you fulfilling the pure and precise will of G-d, by you doing the “limited - small” Mitzvah, you successfully draw down a perfect Divine flame and fire, which shines brightly and warms your heart and soul and brings light and blessings to the entire world.  

This gives us motivation and inspiration:

Never underestimate the power of even one good deed. One Mitzvah. Even if we don’t understand the reason, we are happy to know that by doing the Mitzvah, we brought G-d into our personal life. We just made our Father in Heaven happy. We nourished and ignited our soul with the beauty and warmth of Divine oil and a Divine flame. 

When somebody asks you to do them a favor, especially family and friends,  even if their logic doesn’t make any sense to you, remember that by doing as they requested, by fulfilling their will, you are creating a “flame of friendship”. You made them happy. 

The proof of a deep and true relationship is expressed by a commitment and caring which transcend logic. You do it because it is important to the other person. 

Your goodness and kindness are illuminating the darkness of the world with  light and joy, healing and peace. You are a partner in bringing Moshiach. 

3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe: 

1) We light the Menorah when the sun sets. This shows us that you can be a leader and bring light even if the light of the sun and the joy of life seem to have set and now life seems dark, cold and challenging. You can choose to light a candle of light and transform darkness into light. Pain into joy. Tragedy into triumph. 

All the darkness in the world can not extinguish a small light.  Always focus on the positive, on adding light and you will be blessed to see miracles of happiness and celebration. 

2) Telescopes and magnifying glasses enable us to see what is in front of us. Mirrors enable us to see our own reflection and what is behind us. You have the power and ability to be a “mirror” and fix what is behind you, including past mistakes.

 You can redefine the past by using it as  a motivation to create now something good and positive. Don’t be sad. It’s never to late.   

3) You are a “Walking Menorah”. Wherever you go you can bring light. You are blessed with a Divine soul and when you ignite it with the flame of Torah and Mitzvos it will shine brightly with a beautiful and comforting flame. 

Just like the Menorah has many branches, you have many branches filled with talents and characteristics. Every day of Chanukah we light a new candle. We always grow, we improve, we never stagnate. Maximize your potential and utilize your talents. The more light your inner personal Menorah shares and gives, the happier you will be. Your candle has a unique beauty. Share your light! The world needs you!

חנוכה מראות והתחדשות

אוכל טעים הוא אומנות. המרכיבים דורשים כמויות מדויקות. אם תשים מעט מדי, זה לא יהיה טעים. אם תשים יותר מדי, האורחים שלך יתלוננו. 

בחנוכה אנו מדליקים את המנורה לזכר נס השמן שנמשך שמונה ימים. בתורה אור - מקץ- מסביר אדמו״ר הזקן פרדוקס השמן.

כך גם עם מצוות אלוקיות. אולי לא נראה שום "אש"  בציווי המצווה ואולי אפילו נראה שמבחינה הגיונית זה לא הגיוני. אולם, על ידי עשיית המצווה, מילוי רצון ״הפשוט״ של הבורא, אתה שואב להבה ואש אלוקי המאירים בבהירות ומחממים את לבך ונשמתך. הזכות עומד לך לברכה ולכל צאצאיך. 

זה נותן לנו מוטיבציה והשראה:

לעולם אין לזלזל בכוחה של אפילו מצווה אחת. גם אם אנחנו לא מבינים למה, אנחנו שמחים לדעת שבעשיית המצווה, על ידי קיום רצון הבורא, הבאנו את בורא העולם לחיינו האישיים.  שימחנו את אבינו שבשמיים. האכלנו והדלקנו את נשמתנו ביופי ובחום של שמן אלוקי ולהבה אלוקית.

כשמישהו מבקש ממך טובה, גם אם ההיגיון שלו לא נשמע לך הגיוני, זכור שבמילוי בקשתו אתה יוצר "להבה של ידידות". שימחת מישהו. טוב לבך וחסדך מאירים את העולם באור השמחה ועוזרים להביא ריפוי ושלום לכל העולם וביאת משיח צדקנו.

3 מסרים המבוססים על תורת הרבי:

1) אנו מדליקים את המנורה דוקא כשהשמש שוקעת. זה נותן לנו השראה לדעת שגם במצב של חושך, כשהזוהר של השמש ושל החיים נראה כאילו שקע ועכשיו החיים נראים אפלים. המצב נראה אבוד. אתה יכול לבחור להדליק נר של אור ולהפוך חושך לאור. כאב לשמחה. טרגדיה לניצחון. התמקד תמיד באור, בחיובי, ואבינו שבשמיים יראה לך ניסים של אושר וחגיגה.
