Wine Sacrifices & Joy

Wine has many interesting characteristics. Including that wine requires crushing the grape in order to extract the wine. Drinking wine causes the hidden joy of the heart to be revealed. Wine causes people to reveal secrets. Wine makes us happy.

In Lekutei Torah -Shlach- the Alter Rebbe explains that a Jew has an outer physical  body and an inner hidden holy soul. At the core, a Jew is always connected and united with our loving Father In Heaven.

On this hidden level a Jew is always happy. Since wine comes from the hidden parts of the grape, therefore, when you drink wine, you reveal the preexisting happiness of your hidden soul. You reveal the hidden joy of your heart.

Many sacrifices in the Holy Temple included pouring wine on the alter. The sacrifice was burnt by the fire and it’s smoke went upwards. But the wine was poured downward.

The purpose of the sacrifice, fire and smoke, is for us to elevate ourselves and the world, to a higher level of reality, to connect to the infinite Creator. But the purpose of pouring the wine is to draw down more holiness of G-d into our physical world. A two way mission.

The Alter Rebbe explains that every spiritual inspiration and elevation to a higher level is primarily in order to bring about a drawing down of the holiness of G-d into our physical world, which is the purpose of all of Creation.

We are blessed and chosen to be the ones to make our physical world a better, holier and more peaceful world. This is achieved by the good deeds we do in the physical world.

The purpose of saying the prayer Shma Yisroel, is to elevate ourselves and connect to G-d. Teffilin too, contain the prayer of Shma Yisroel, written on parchment and skin of the animal. This is in order to emphasise and draw down the unity of G-d into our physical world. Therefore if one says Shma Yisroel without Teffilin, they are missing the point. We are chosen to be the ones to bring down the שכינה presence of G-d into the physical world.

The Alter Rebbe explains that this is why the Talmud equates one who prays the Shma Yisroel without Teffilin, to one who brings a sacrifice without pouring the wine. Because the overarching theme and idea in both rituals is the same. To have an elevating experience, a spiritual high, which will draw down an increased amount of Divine holiness into our physical world.

This gives us motivation and inspiration:

You are an eternal partner in Creation. Every moment of life, you have the opportunity to draw down more holiness of G-d into our physical world. To beautify our world which is the Royal Garden of the Creator. Your opportunity for a spiritual high is for the primary purpose of improving our physical world here below.

Every good deed and Mitzvah you do, helps the entire world. Never feel you no purpose or meaning. Have healthy self confidence. Never give up hope. Be proud of yourself. All of history and all of existence is waiting for your input and your partnership. The world can not do it without you!

You can build a Holy Temple for G-d inside your heart. By doing additional deeds of goodness and kindness,  dedicating time to study Torah, you are successfully transforming your heart and body into a sanctuary for our loving Father in Heaven. Every time you sacrifice of yourself,  you are experiencing and beautifying the sanctuary within you.

Your life and your existence are truly priceless. You can bring peace, redemption and love into all of existence. The more you reveal your true inner self, the happier you will be.

Enjoy your wine and your spiritual high. It’s about your positive impact on the entire world!

3 messages based on the teachings of the Rebbe:

1) Bread sustains life. The nutritious food you eat helps keep your body and soul connected. The Torah refers to sacrifices as “the bread of G-d”. Because a sacrifice connects you and our physical world with the Creator. To the giver and source of life.

Every time you sacrifice even just a little bit of your comfort, you help another person, you put a smile on the face of someone who is hurting, you are connecting yourself and the world to G-d. Celebrate your gift of life. Enjoy maximising your every moment.  Actualise your full potential.

2) You are inherently good. You are the beloved child of our loving Father in Heaven and you deserve to have your life filled with the wealth and blessings of a prince.

Jewish pride is key to strengthening Jewish continuity. Assimilation can happen only when one under-appreciates their Jewish identity. You can save Jewish youth from assimilation by sharing with every Jewish child and adult you meet,  the beauty and pleasure of Jewish heritage, Torah and tradition. Be a leader and save lives.

3) Everything in existence has an outer dimension and an inner dimension. An external facade vs it’s true purpose and value.

The art of life is to always discover the inner purpose and inner dimension and never to be fooled by the external packaging. To live in exile גלות is to live a life of an external facade while failing to reveal the true priceless treasures which are hidden inside.

Judaism and Torah, guide us to the riches and treasures which every person has inside their heart and soul. Be a leader and help everyone in your environment to discover the infinite beauty of their true inner self.

The more you help others, the more you will discover the vast treasures which are hidden inside of you. The keys are in your hand. All you have to do is open your eyes. Moshiach is on his way. Be a leader and help the world usher in a new and eternal era of joy, peace and Divine wisdom.
