Strong smelling-salts have the power to revive a person who fainted. Because the power of smell touches the soul and revives it and it returns to the body.  In Torah Or -Toldos- the Alter Rebbe explains that only by sacrifices does the Torah say that G-d has pleasure and enjoys the aroma and smell. The Zohar teaches that every deed we do creates a “garment”, a spiritual aroma and smell.
